Series 1 of record group 68-6 consists of correspondence for the years 1928-1965 of the Game Division of the Michigan Department of Conservation, and of the chief, Harry D. Ruhl. Includes memos, interoffice communications, a directory of the Department's field offices (1948), and issues of the Michigan Department of Conservation Official news bulletin. Memos are concerned with issues such as hunting and trapping regulations, the management of state game areas, moose on Isle Royale, raccoon season, land acquisition, beaver season, and the deer management program. Letters discussing the promotion of muskrat breeding for commercial fur value are also included.

The 1925 Clark-McNary Act expanded the provisions of 1911 Federal legislation creating the National Forest System (Weeks Law). It made it easier for the United States Department of Agriculture to buy land from those sellers whose property was located within the National Forest System. The act also enabled the National Forest Service to work with state officials in forest protection and reforestation efforts.
